My top 5 tips for Mum’s on the Go!

Ok, so you’re a mum, you’re busy, you’re life is not your own..yada yada yada. Yes we all feel like this sometimes (maybe all the time) but what little steps can we take to ensure that we are channeling inner sparkle and glamour and not the paranoid sleep deprived crazy frazzled parent at the school gates in our onesie’s and slippers! (psst never EVER do this!)

We may be in multitasking free fall with our homes looking like they have been burgled by pyjama wearing, jam smearing, rusk dropping hobbits….but to the outside world we want to appear swan like- all elegance and grace, gliding through out morning child care routine with an air of general put togetherness. My theory is look better (whether you feel it or not!) on the outside = feel better on the inside!

So here are my Top 5 tips to achieve a better put together you in the morning that will have a positive impact on your well being for the rest of the day, because after 5 who pays attention;

  1. Sunglasses –  I can not stress enough what a useful prop sunglasses are…..for all types of weather….even over cast days, stick your shades on! Glasses hide the fact that you didn’t get a full nights sleep, you haven’t bothered to put your mascara on yet and they give an air of polished sophistication, even when worn on the head as a hair band!….You will need more than one pair because inevitably they go missing (especially with the kids re-deploying them), so make sure you have assigned places to keep them (safe) so they are always there as you dash out the door. It’s doesn’t really matter what price you pay, but safety first, always make sure they have UVA/ UVB protection. My favourites are the Stella & Dot Mirimars in black…. (See photo) Style should be dark, big and bold….to give the best coverage of the face!
  2. Dry shampoo – It’s day 2 (or maybe 3?) of no hair wash. There has been no time to wash your hair this morning, so get creative with the ole dry shampoo. I use Baptiste Dry Shampoo in Cherry. Especially good for longer length styles as dry shampoo sucks up the grease and gives texture to the messy up do that you are perfecting (i.e.  it looks like it took you ages to create but in fact it was 10 seconds!) Another great tip is the ‘Invisibobble’. I’m quite new to these but damn they work. They help to give more height and grip to the messy up do….trust me just go buy one.IMG_5372.jpg
  3. Lipstick –  for the rush job in the morning, put the nude barely there lippy’s to one side and go for the bolder shades. The reason being is nude lips look great with heavy made up eyes- and you know what, we ain’t had the time to get that done this morning- so ramp up the colour of the lip. The right shade can make your skin look healthy , your teeth look whiter and generally look like you’ve bothered to make an effort this morning. I am currently using lipsticks by The House of Colour. Please see my previous blog about this, it was an amazing experience!
  4. Accessories –  It goes like this- I rolled out of bed- landed on one of the children then fell into my grey skinny jeans, t-shirt and converse trainers- yep not rocket science – but the sneaky trick to looking polished is accessories. A good statement necklace can and will lift any outfit as will a cracking pair of earrings. So be bold with your choices, one of my favourite combos is The Freya and  The Aurora in gold, see main photo, both by Stella & Dot…click links to shop peeps.
  5. Finally…Smile! Now that bit is easy! If you don’t feel like smiling, just smile anyway.

This is in essence faking it- and there is nothing wrong with that. As you will find that the psychology of ‘faking it ’till you make it’ as it were,  does actually lift your mood, improve productivity and better prepare you to face the day ahead- so what can it hurt?….Absolutely nothing. So if you need to add a little bit more sparkle and spring in your step in the mornings try these steps out for a couple of weeks and let me know how you get on…..you won’t regret it.

Love and Sparkles Peeps
